release year: 1980
genre: musical comedy
viewing setting: numerous (member of the double-digit club)
what I expected: no longer applicable
what I got: simply put, one of the ultimate comedies
synopsis: In order to save the orphanage in which they grew up, ne'er-do-wells Jake and Elwood embark on a mission: to get their band back together and raise the money they need.
impressions: This is downright hilarious, a highly entertaining movie of epic scope. It combines great music, great lines, well-choreographed dance routines, amazing car chases, and numerous celebrity appearances. If you don't enjoy this movie, I claim that you're not capable of enjoying comedy.
acting: John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd are in TOP form here, taking their SNL skit onto the big screen, complete with singing and dancing. The other roles, from the band members to the musical guests to associated people, are too numerous to credit here, but pretty much everyone did a great job.
special note concerning remastered edition: When I watched this on 12/26/98, it was the remastered DVD version with extra footage. This new material was integrated seamlessly into the main movie, and there were a lot of such scenes.
final word: An undeniable classic.
